I popped on over to the AAC to see a productionof Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella". It was an okay show- not worth the $12 ticket ($8, maybe) but it was a nice way to spend the afternoon. It was a local theatre troupe so the cast members ranged in age from around 6-50 years. Cinderella had a nice voice but (to my ears) a very distinct southern accent. She is a choir singer and this was her first time on stage as an actor which was pretty evident as she suffered from a common choir ailment- little movement and expression while singing. The Prince had a nice voice(although he messed up a few lines in "Do I love you becasue you're beautiful") but he wasn't horribly prince looking. The stepsisters and mother were very entertaining, the Fairy Godmother had a good voice, but I wasn't too crazy about the Queen- her voice just didn't do it for me. There were some crossover scenes that were weak and the ensemble was sadly lacking in vibrancy and enthusism as well as vocal talent. But the use of a scrim was quite effective and the ball and Cinderella's ball gown was GORGEOUS!! Huge white crinoline with a tight bodice
trimmed with diamonds and with diamonds coming off her shoulders.
There are a few more shows I want to see this week and I want to go shopping for my Wacky Tacky outfit. I love thrift store shopping....
