The Alcohol Drenched Week of the New Nineteen Year Old:

*insert applause here*

So I made it to Wednesday and the gloriousness that was the INXS concert.

Thursday was the day that Play Alive! was to be performed at the U of T Drama Festival. As a tech type person, I was at the theatre that morning to learn how to use the equipment, it took a long time to get the lights programmed, and then we ran a very short cue to cue which had me feeling very nervous as I still wasn't comfortable with the opening cues. We were back at the theatre for our 8pm call (we were the last ones performing), our lead actor was 1/2 hour late, and I was shaking when I made my way up to the sound booth. But, things went spectacularly- we had a great deal of laughs and a great adjudication, both private and public. We've already bitched enough about it so I won't mention how annoying and embarassing it was to listen to one of the other directors to defend his work by the constant uses of the words "fire inside" and "visceral". I shall not resort to murder. After the show I went back to my room to grab my wallet and people for the cast party. When we got to the agreed bar, no one was there so we sat down and ordered a pitcher of beer. Then Tasha called to tell me that they had gotten kicked out of two bars and were now at some place on Yonge. So we finished our beer (yuck, says I. Gimme chick drinks anyday...) and headed over. Had a great time, pretty tipsy, unfortunately noone brought a camera so we have no hilarious photographic evidence of our party-harty ness.

Slept in on Friday because I deserved it. It was the day that Gabri and I had our dual birthday celebration at the Danforth Bowl. Of course, in order to bowl one must be intoxicated so we went to the same bar as the previous night, drank, took funny pictures (including ones with faux-lesbian action for Andrew's sake), and then went bowling. Now honestly, I thought we would bowl for an hour and then leave but he had such an amazing time that we stayed for two hours, bowling, drinking, taking more photos. Great time, says I! Sean slept on the couch in our common room that night as he came down from UTM for the party.

I shall post pics as soon as I get them from Andrew.

Saturday we went to a theatre store down on King with Alison who had hoped to buy the new Sweeny Todd CD which had, alas, sold out. I saw a shirt that said "But what I really want to do is direct" and desperately wanted it but apparently they don't make it any smaller than a medium. Just what exactly are they implying here? That all potential directors are fat? Big Boned? I am insulted! I am now experiencing the feeling of loss and abandonment as a result.

That night was the closing night of the Drama festival and the awards ceremony so I headed over with Tasha and Kristen. We saw two plays- the first one I thought was horribly written and for some reason had random rape, murder, and lesbian action-??? The second one, a one woman show, was well done but predictable. Then came the awards ceremony and much squee. VCDS won 5 awards- missing out on the Playwright award but getting everything else: Best Production, Best Technical Direction, Best Performance (Ann and Chris), Best Direction, and Viewer's Choice Award for Thursday night.

After the awards ceremony was the festival hosted party at the Duke of York and, as far as parties go, it was horrible. The bar had apparently booked us in the same room as SINGLES NIGHT and it was so crowded noone could move- apparently there are a lot of desperate single people. Some plays got turned away b/c there was no space. One guy at the singles night was wearing a Zebra striped cowboy hat and red velour shirt. Buddy, a word of advice: Wear one or the other, don't mix the two. Then there was this other girl, waaayyyy drunk, talking very loud and announcing that she was going to take off her pants. We left around 12:45. Meh.

But here are some pics:

The whole group, sitting pretentiously with our many awards. I think we mentioned them every other sentence...
