"Twas the most epic of epicness, the most rock of rock-ness. Yes, it was Meatloaf.
And he was wonderful.
We left TO around 4 to beat rush hour traffic so me, Mike, and Tom got into Hamilton around 5. What is one to do in Hamilton when you have 2 hours until a concert starts? Apparently hang out in the mall next to Copps. The mall in which everything closed at 5 or 6. Maybe we were just spoiled city people, but you honestly do notice a difference between the two cities. There was an interesting mix of people in the food court, where we spent most of our time. An old woman whom Tom found endlessly entertaining, a girl having a huge yelling match with her boyfriend (With everybody watching not so subtly), and this older adult couple making out by the trash cans.
Interesting says I....
Marion Raven (who does the duet vocals on "It;s All Coming Back to me Now" was the opening act- really enjoyed her. She was about a twenty minute set and then Meatloaf started at 8. His opening song was "paradise by the dashboard light" with the band and singers in 70s glo-clothing and Meatloaf sporting long hair and a mullet. I thought it was real until he came back out later sans wig. Anyhoo, he was amazing. The first "act" of his show was mostly older stuff- everybody sang and clapped along when he did "Anything for Love" (they had a great t-shirt at the merch counter with 'i'd do anything for love' on the front and 'but i won't do that' on the back), he did "Life is a Lemon", "Rock and Roll dreams", "two out of three ain't bad" and many other such classics.
Then he actually had an intermission. I kid you not, an intermission at a rock concert. When they came back after a 10min intermission they did a montage of all the films he has done- everyone cheered when they showed him as Eddie in Rocky Horror. I definitely think I was the only one who recognized the clip from Spice World....
His last song of the night was "Bat out of Hell" and then he came back for a 4 SONG ENCORE! He did Spiderbait's Black Betty, some song about a Mercury, his duet with Marion Raven, and one more which currently escapes me...
We later found out from Eddie, who had spent the concert hanging out with the security and other limo drivers that Meatloaf had been really drunk during the show. Did I notice? Not particularly.
He did have some spectacular moments of interaction with the audience, notably when he told everyone who had cameras to stand up, no they weren't going to take them away, and then he posed and told everyone to snap a pic. and then he yelled "okay boys, get 'em!". But my fave of the night had to be "Canada, I love you" *cheers* "no, don't cheer. I love you but I have to go to fucking Florida. Not only is it fucking cold outside, it is fucking cold in here!"
Greatness. I was definitely in bed as soon as I got home.... So tired.... And Mike and I also bought bags of candied beer nuts and candy cashews. Amazing....
So now it is Thursday night and I am off to the athletic banquet. Me? Athletic banquet? Chris is the athlete but by the grace of my participation in Volleyball this semester I get to go to a special dressy dinner at Burwash. Could be good? Maybe? We shall see....
And I have a new job! In addition to working at the golden arches of hell I have joined the ranks of foodies at the cafe where I start on Tuesday with a higher wage and hopefully a better group of people to work with.
Yeah yeah.
